Draft Guidance on Equivalence Criteria for Food

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is publishing for public comment the criteria that the agency intends to use in evaluating whether the regulatory systems used by foreign countries to ensure the safety of foods exported to the United States for human consumption are equivalent to the regulatory system of the United States. Based on its evaluation, FDA will decide whether to institute the proceedings necessary to enter into an equivalence agreement with the foreign country.
