Özet

This final rule authorizes the District Director of the Immigration and Naturalization Service to exercise the Department of State's function with respect to the waiver of the passport and/or visa requirement under the provisions of section 212(d)(4)(A) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). The rule eliminates time consuming procedures for obtaining the concurrence of passport and/or visa waivers, and benefits certain nonimmigrant aliens who, because of unforeseen circumstances, are subjected to delays when seeking admission to the United States without the required documents.

Passports: Expanding Online Passport Renewal Overseas

The Department proposes to amend 22 CFR 51.21 by consolidating requirements for persons applying by mail and online in the United States and overseas. This proposed change includes expanding online passport application availability to qualified applicants located in foreign countries. In addition, the Department is proposing to remove the requirement that an applicant's most recently issued passport must have a year or less of remaining validity to qualify to submit an online passport application. Finally, the Department is proposing technical corrections to 51.8(b) to change "on-line" to read "online" for consistency.

Notice of Determinations; Culturally Significant Objects Being Imported for Exhibition-Determinations: “From the Louvre: Masterpieces of Islamic Art” Exhibition

Notice is hereby given of the following determinations: I hereby determine that certain objects being imported from abroad pursuant to agreements with their foreign owners or custodians for temporary display in the exhibition "From the Louvre: Masterpieces of Islamic Art" at the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, National Museum of Asian Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, District of Columbia, and at possible additional exhibitions or venues yet to be determined, are of cultural significance, and, further, that their temporary exhibition or display within the United States as aforementioned is in the national interest. I have ordered that Public Notice of these determinations be published in the Federal Register.

The former Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs Contact List, State-03 which is being rescinded, contained contact information from business, labor, agricultural and non-government organizations, and others working in the international economic arena as well as individuals who were interested in or requested information about economic issues. The information was used for inviting individuals to Department briefings on international economic issues, disseminating speeches and articles on economic issues by Department officials, and providing U.S. government fact sheets on major international economic issues.
