Resumo
This document announces two public meetings to seek comments from a broad spectrum of participants on recommendations by the U.S. and European automotive industry for actions by the U.S. and European Union governments concerning international harmonization of motor vehicle safety and environmental regulation, the intergovernmental regulatory process necessary to achieve such harmonization, and coordination of vehicle safety and environmental research. The industry recommendations were made at the Transatlantic Automotive Industry Conference on International Regulatory Harmonization, held in Washington, DC, on April 10-11, 1996. The comments will assist NHTSA and EPA both in deciding how to respond to those recommendations as well as in ensuring that harmonization does not result in any degradation of safety or environmental protection in the United States.
