Samenvatting
This rule amends Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 109, New Pneumatic Tires, and the Uniform Tire Quality Grading Standards, to permit the manufacture and sale of tires having a maximum tire inflation pressure of 350 kiloPascals (kPa) (51 pounds per square inch (psi)). Tires having a maximum tire inflation pressure of 350 kPa have reduced rolling resistance, which can increase the energy efficiency of vehicles. Today's rule permits the manufacture and sale of 350 kPa tires for use on all passenger cars, including electric and other energy-efficient vehicles. This amendment responds to a petition for rulemaking submitted by the Rubber Manufacturers Association.
