The Coast Guard proposes to amend special local regulations for annual regattas and marine parades in the Captain of the Port Lake Michigan Zone. This proposed rule is intended to provide for the safety of life and property on navigable waters immediately prior to, during, and immediately after regattas or marine parades. This proposed rule will establish restrictions upon, and control the movement of, vessels in a portion of the Captain of the Port Lake Michigan Zone.

Safety Zone; Sector Mobile Annual and Recurring Safety Zones

The Coast Guard is proposing to revise its regulations for permanent safety zones in the Coast Guard Sector Mobile Captain of the Port Zone, 33 CFR 165.801 Table 7, to update the current list with revisions and additional events. The proposed safety zones are necessary to protect event participants, waterway users, and vessels from the potential hazards associated with these recurring events. This proposed rulemaking would prohibit persons from being in the proposed safety zones without permission from the Captain of the Port (COTP) or the COTP's designated representative. We invite your comments on this proposed rulemaking.

The Coast Guard will enforce the safety zone for Events at Lakeshore State Park, Milwaukee, WI, on a portion of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, WI, for a series of dates in June, July, and August 2026. This action is intended to protect personnel, vessels, and the marine environment from potential hazards created by multiple fireworks and drone shows. During the enforcement period listed below, entry into, transiting, or anchoring within the safety zone is prohibited unless authorized by the Captain of the Port Lake Michigan or a designated representative.

The Coast Guard will enforce multiple safety zones located in federal regulations for recurring marine events taking place in June and July 2026 to provide for the safety of life on navigable waterways during these events. Our regulation for marine events within the Coast Guard Great Lakes District identifies the regulated areas for these events. During the enforcement periods, the operator of any vessel in the regulated area must comply with directions from the Captain of the Port Eastern Great Lakes or a designated representative.
