NMFS is closing the Herring Savings Areas of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) to directed fishing for pollock by vessels using trawl gear. This action is necessary because the 1994 trawl bycatch allowance of Pacific herring specified for the midwater pollock fishery category in the BSAI has been reached.
