National Automotive Sampling System

The NHTSA is conducting a comprehensive review of the National Automotive Sampling System (NASS) research design and data collection methods as part of a major effort to modernize the system. Users of NASS and crash data may comment on the future utility of current data elements, recommend additional data elements and attributes, and describe their anticipated data needs.

NHTSA Delays EDR Implementation Schedule

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is adopting a four-year phase-in compliance schedule for expanded pre-crash data capture requirements for Event Data Recorders (EDRs), starting September 1, 2028, in response to petitions for reconsideration of a final rule published on December 18, 2024.
