NHTSA Proposes New Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard to Reduce Side Window Ejections
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is proposing a new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 226 to reduce the partial and complete ejection of vehicle occupants through side windows in crashes, particularly rollover crashes. The standard would apply to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less and would require manufacturers to modify existing side impact air bag curtains and possibly supplement them with advanced laminated glazing.
