US Department of Transportation Proposes Fees for Motor Vehicle Importation and Registration

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has proposed new fees for the registration of importers and the importation of motor vehicles not certified to meet Federal motor vehicle safety standards, as authorized by 49 U.S.C. 30141. The proposed fee changes aim to cover the costs of maintaining the registered importer program and reimburse U.S. Customs Service for bond processing costs.
