NMFS announces the denial of a petition for emergency rulemaking for the red snapper fishery in the Gulf of Mexico that was filed with the U.S. Department of Commerce by the Texas Shrimp Association (TSA). TSA's petition requested emergency rulemaking to reduce the 2001 total allowable catch (TAC) in the fishery and to shorten the associated recreational fishing season.
