NMFS Approves Rebuilding Plans for Overfished Chinook Salmon Stocks

Summary

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has finalized a rule to rebuild two overfished salmon stocks, Klamath River fall-run Chinook salmon (KRFC) and Sacramento River fall-run Chinook salmon (SRFC), in accordance with the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA). The stocks were determined to be overfished in 2018 due to low spawning escapement levels between 2015-2017, and must be rebuilt within 10 years under the MSA.
