The New England Fishery Management Council has developed Amendment 8 to the Atlantic Herring Fishery Management Plan, which aims to establish a long-term acceptable biological catch control rule for herring and prohibit midwater trawling in inshore Federal waters to support sustainable management of the herring resource and minimize detrimental biological impacts on predators and associated socioeconomic impacts on other user groups.
