NHTSA Denies Petition to Regulate Automotive Restraint Systems for Pregnant Women
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has denied a petition submitted by Mr. James E. Hofferberth on April 1, 2013, to regulate the performance of supplementary automotive restraint systems marketed for pregnant women and to require prominent warning labels in vehicles. The agency cited insufficient information and concerns about the potential safety risks to both the mother and the unborn child.
