The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has finalized procedures for obtaining an exemption from the vehicle theft prevention standard for vehicles equipped with immobilizers, streamlining the exemption process by adding performance criteria for immobilizers. The new criteria closely follow the immobilizer performance requirements in the anti-theft standard of Canada, allowing manufacturers to provide data showing their device meets the performance criteria and is durable and reliable.
