NRC Grants Exemption to Southern Nuclear for Vogtle Units 3 and 4 Containment Structure Upgrade

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has granted an exemption to Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc., allowing a deviation from the certification requirements of the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant's (VEGP) Tier 1 generic design control document (DCD) and License Amendment No. 11 to Combined Licenses (COL) for Units 3 and 4. This exemption pertains to the installation of additional electrical penetration assemblies within the containment structure.
