NMFS Closes Commercial Management Groups for Atlantic Highly Migratory Species
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is closing commercial management groups for Atlantic Highly Migratory Species, including aggregated large coastal sharks, Atlantic hammerhead sharks, Atlantic blacknose sharks, and Atlantic non-blacknose small coastal sharks, due to high landings exceeding 80% of the available quota. This decision was made necessary by the projected high landings of Atlantic aggregated LCS and Atlantic blacknose sharks for the 2013 fishing season.
