Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards; Electronic Stability Control Systems for Heavy Vehicles
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration proposes a new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 136 to require electronic stability control systems on heavy trucks and buses with a gross vehicle weight rating over 26,000 pounds, aiming to reduce crashes and save lives. The proposed rule could prevent 1,807 to 2,329 crashes, 649 to 858 injuries, and 49 to 60 fatalities, generating positive net benefits.
