NHTSA to Establish System of Records Under Privacy Act of 1974 for CARS Program
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) plans to create a system of records under the Privacy Act of 1974 to collect personally identifiable information (PII) of car buyers and lessees participating in the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save (CARS) program. The system will also include information from sole proprietor automobile salvage auctions and disposal facilities participating in the CARS Program, which operated from July 1, 2009, to November 1, 2009.
