Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards: Additional Time for Designated Seating Positions

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a final rule providing an additional year of lead time for vehicle manufacturers to comply with the revised definition of designated seating positions, as outlined in the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). The new rule aims to address petitions for reconsideration of the 2008 final rule, which clarified the definition and made it applicable to vehicles manufactured on and after September 1, 2010.
