NHTSA Denies ETA Petition to Increase Low Speed Vehicle Weight Limit

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has denied a petition from Electronic Transportation Applications (ETA) to reconsider its 2006 rule increasing the maximum gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) for low speed vehicles (LSVs) from 3,000 pounds to 4,000 pounds. The agency maintained its initial limit of 3,000 pounds to ensure vehicles meet full Federal motor vehicle safety standards.
