NHTSA Updates Safety Standard for Occupant Crash Protection
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is updating its safety standard for occupant crash protection to prioritize smaller occupants, adopting a 35 mph maximum speed for frontal barrier crash tests using female test dummies. The new requirement will be phased in starting September 1, 2009, two years after the existing 50th percentile male dummy test requirement.
