Motor Vehicle Safety: NHTSA Decides on Disposal of Recalled Tires
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has responded to the Rubber Manufacturers Association's (RMA) petition, clarifying that the Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability, and Documentation (TREAD) Act does not prohibit the use of recalled tires in landfill construction, contrary to a statement in the August 13, 2004 final rule.
