Nissan Seeks Exemption from Two-Fleet Rule for 2006-2010 Model Years
Nissan North America, Inc. has filed a petition with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requesting an exemption from the two-fleet rule, which requires manufacturers to divide their passenger vehicles into domestic and non-domestic fleets to meet fuel economy standards. The exemption is needed due to a change in the CAFE statute that will reclassify one of Nissan's Mexican-manufactured vehicles from non-domestic to domestic, potentially harming its non-domestic fleet's compliance with fuel economy standards.
