NHTSA Adopts Proposal for Rear Seat Safety Belts

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has finalized a rule requiring all rear seats to be equipped with Type 2 integral lap/shoulder safety belts, except for side-facing seats, which can use Type 1 lap belts or Type 2 belts, in response to a Congressional mandate to phase-in requirements for lap/shoulder belts by September 1, 2005.
