NHTSA Proposes New Tire Performance Requirements

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is seeking public comments on a proposed new Federal motor vehicle safety standard for tires, which would apply to vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less, and would include more stringent requirements for tire performance, as well as the potential use of shearography analysis to evaluate tire condition.
