NHTSA Proposes Enhanced Brake Safety Standard for Single-Unit Trucks and Buses
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is proposing to require single-unit trucks and buses equipped with antilock braking systems (ABS) to pass a dynamic performance test, similar to the one already required for medium and heavy vehicles, to ensure improved directional stability and control during braking. This test, which was first introduced in 1995, evaluates the vehicle's ability to maintain traction on curved roads with full brake application, and NHTSA plans to expand its application to these vehicles in the future.
