NHTSA Denies Petition for Rulemaking on Air Bag Sensor Data Recording
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has denied a petition submitted by Price T. Bingham, a private individual, to require the recording of crash data from air bag sensors in vehicles. The agency acknowledges the value of this data in improving motor vehicle safety but believes the auto industry is already moving in the recommended direction and that this issue can be addressed in a non-regulatory context.
