NHTSA Amends Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for Rear-Facing Child Seats
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has finalized an amendment to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for Child Restraint Systems, requiring rear-facing child seats to display a warning label that alerts drivers not to place the seat in the front seat with an air bag. The change, requested by Porsche Cars North America Inc., allows for the addition of a 'unless air bag is off' phrase to the warning label, as long as the seat can deactivate the air bag and provide an audible or visual signal to the driver.
