NHTSA Corrects Final Rule on Deactivating Front Passenger-Side Air Bag
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has corrected a final rule published in 1995, allowing vehicle manufacturers to install a manual device to deactivate the front passenger-side air bag in vehicles with infant restraints in the front seat. The corrected rule, effective June 22, 1995, restores the option to use the signal word 'Warning' on the air bag warning label.
