NHTSA and FHWA Plan Study on State Costs and Benefits of Repealing National Maximum Speed Limit
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are conducting a study on the state costs and benefits associated with repealing the National Maximum Speed Limit (NMSL), as required by the National Highway System Designation Act of 1996. The agencies will use comments from state officials and others to inform their plan, which aims to meet the September 30, 1997, deadline set by the Act.
