EPA Proposes Exemption for Viral Coat Proteins Produced in Plants as Plant-Pesticides
Summary
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposes an exemption from the requirement of a tolerance under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act for residues of coat proteins from plant viruses produced as plant-pesticides in plants or plant parts used as raw agricultural commodities. The proposal is based on the fact that virus-infected plants have been part of the human and domestic animal food supply without detectable adverse health effects.
