The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has received and requests public comment on a petition for rulemaking filed by the Portland General Electric Company. The petitioner requests that the NRC amend its regulations which govern independent storage of spent nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste to specifically include radioactive waste produced from reactor operations pending its transfer to a permanent disposal facility.
