U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to Reintroduce Whooping Cranes in Southwestern Louisiana
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service plans to reintroduce whooping cranes into historic habitat in southwestern Louisiana to establish a nonmigratory flock, with the goal of advancing the species' recovery. The reintroduction aims to assess the suitability of Louisiana as whooping crane habitat and evaluate the effectiveness of releasing captive-reared birds into the wild.
