DOT Requests Comments on Temporary Exemption for Tarmac Delay Rules at JFK, EWR, LGA, and PHL Airports

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking public comments on a request by airlines to temporarily exempt themselves from the Department's tarmac delay rules at four major airports: John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL). The exemption would allow airlines to avoid the requirement to provide passengers with an opportunity to deplane during lengthy tarmac delays, pending runway construction at JFK Airport in 2010.
