Clarification of Parachute Packing Authorization
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has clarified the requirements for individuals packing, maintaining, or altering main parachutes of dual-parachute systems used for parachute jumping in connection with US civil aircraft. The new rules limit the authority of non-certified individuals to only pack the main parachute when they will be the next jumper to use it, aiming to address a potentially unsafe condition created by changes to the 2001 rule revision.
