NOAA Closes Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Fisheries for Large, Medium, and Giant Fish
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has closed the northern area fishing category for Atlantic bluefin tuna, specifically large, medium, and giant 'trophy' fish, until the end of 2010. This closure is intended to prevent overfishing of the 2010 quota for these fish, which measures 73 inches or greater in curved fork length, and is effective starting at 11:59 p.m. on July 18, 2010.
