NMFS Issues Regulations to Implement Shark Conservation Measures and Vessel Monitoring System Requirements in the Eastern Pacific Ocean

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is issuing regulations to implement shark conservation measures and vessel monitoring system requirements in the eastern Pacific Ocean, as required by the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC). The regulations require U.S. longline vessels to release incidentally caught sharks and make manual reports in the event of a malfunctioning vessel monitoring system unit.
