NMFS Proposes Changes to Bluefin Tuna Catch Accounting Requirements

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is proposing modifications to the Atlantic highly migratory species regulations to require vessels in the pelagic longline fishery to account for bluefin tuna bycatch on a quarterly basis, rather than before each fishing trip. This change aims to optimize fishing opportunities for target species like tuna and swordfish, while improving the functionality of the Individual Bluefin Quota Program.
