Federal Reserve Board Amends Regulation D to Authorize Term Deposits
The Federal Reserve Board is amending Regulation D to allow Reserve Banks to offer term deposits, which will help manage reserve balances and facilitate monetary policy. Eligible institutions can hold term deposits and earn interest at a rate capped at short-term interest rates, but they cannot use them to reduce overdrafts or satisfy reserve requirements.
