Notice of Agreement Under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA)

The US Department of Agriculture's Forest Service and Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center (OCAFC) have reached a proposed settlement with Gannett Co., Inc. on behalf of Shiny Rock Mining Corporation to clean up hazardous substances at the Ruth and Morning Star Mines Site in Oregon. The settlement requires OCAFC and Shiny Rock to relocate and stabilize contaminated material at the site, with the companies paying for the costs, including the Forest Service's oversight.
