Internal Revenue Service Updates Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) User Fee

The IRS has temporarily reduced the user fee for applying or renewing a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) and will begin charging the reduced fee to individuals who apply or renew a PTIN, as authorized by the Independent Offices Appropriations Act of 1952. This change is part of the proposed regulations for tax return preparers, which were announced in a notice of proposed rulemaking published in the Federal Register.
