Hazardous Materials: Adjustment of Maximum and Minimum Civil Penalties

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is adjusting the maximum and minimum civil penalties for violating the Federal hazardous material transportation law. The changes, required by the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act of 1990, increase the maximum penalty to $55,000 and the minimum penalty to $495 for training-related violations, with higher amounts for more severe consequences.
