Atlantic Highly Migratory Species; Atlantic Commercial Shark Management Measures Final Rule
The U.S. government has established annual quotas for the 2009 fishing season for four shark species, including sandbar sharks, large coastal sharks, small coastal sharks, and pelagic sharks, as part of the 2006 Consolidated Atlantic Highly Migratory Species Fishery Management Plan. The quotas are intended to minimize the negative impacts on commercial fishermen in the Atlantic commercial shark fishery, following a small overharvest in the porbeagle shark fishery in 2008.
