National Organic Program: National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances per October 2021, October 2022, and October 2024 Recommendations (Crops and Livestock)

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has proposed a rule to update its organic regulations, allowing for the use of carbon dioxide in organic crop production and meloxicam as a pain treatment in organic livestock production. The proposed rule also removes restrictions on methionine in organic poultry feed and permits the use of sodium nitrate as a fertilizer in organic crop production, subject to conditions to protect soil quality.
