NMFS Issues Final Rule for Bering Sea Longline Catcher Processor Capacity Reduction Program
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has implemented a voluntary capacity reduction program for the longline catcher processor subsector of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands non-pollock groundfish fishery, in compliance with the FY 2005 Appropriations Act. The program aims to reduce fishing capacity while minimizing costs, and eligible permit holders must sign and abide by a capacity reduction agreement and, if selected, a fishing capacity reduction contract with the U.S. Government.
