FAA Proposes New Airworthiness Directive for Smoke Detectors on Transport Category Airplanes
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is proposing a new airworthiness directive to replace smoke detectors on certain transport category airplanes, including the Aerospatiale ATR42 and ATR72, Boeing 727 and 737, and McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and MD-10 models, due to a potential issue with the detectors locking up during power transfer, which could lead to inoperative smoke detection and alert the flight crew in case of a fire.
