Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act

This document launches a thorough examination of the appropriate legal and policy framework of the 1994 Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act ("CALEA"). We initiate this proceeding at the request of, and in response to, a joint petition filed by the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (collectively, "Law Enforcement").
