EPA Proposes New Cooling Water Intake Regulations for Power Plants

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed new regulations under the Clean Water Act to establish requirements for cooling water intake structures at certain power plants. The proposed rule would apply to facilities with a design intake flow of 50 million gallons per day or more, and would only affect manufacturing facilities, as power producers with a flow greater than 50 MGD are already regulated under the Phase II rule.
