NMFS Announces Aboriginal Subsistence Whaling Quota for Bowhead Whales

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has set a quota of 75 bowhead whales for aboriginal subsistence whaling by members of the Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission (AEWC), based on regulations adopted at the 1997 International Whaling Commission (IWC) Annual Meeting.
