Atlantic Bluefin Tuna Fisheries to Close Early Due to Quota Attainment
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has announced that the Atlantic bluefin tuna fishery will close early due to the attainment of its quota, with the closure taking effect at 11:30 p.m. on October 23, 2001, to prevent overfishing of the adjusted quota of 816.7 metric tons. The closure is a result of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) determining that the 2001 fishing year quota will be reached by October 23, 2001.
